New Spring 2026 Classes

Posted on 14 Oct 202514 Oct 2025 By scd

Yikes, it’s been three years since I posted to this site’s blog. As one can tell, I haven’t kept up with it, and frankly have been struggling trying to figure out what I’d even want to post. I do regularly post to other spots on the internet — not any open social media any longer (Twitter/X is a cesspool, Bluesky and Mastodon didn’t stick with me). I do share what I’m watching on Letterboxd, and you can find that easily enough if you look.

But, here’s a post just to confirm that I’m still alive. I’ve been needing to revamp this site for a while, and might get around to doing that before the end of the year. For now, I encourage you to check out the revised menu bar above for info on my recent teaching and here are links to the three pages I’ve made, advertising courses I’m excited to teach in Spring, 2026:

  • MDST3712: Interactive Storytelling — A workshop-based class where students learn about the connections between interactive design and narrative. Students make a number of short interactive stories in multiple digital and non-digital forms. I’ve taught this for many years and this will be the last time I teach it for a bit, but I’m excited to go out with a bang.
  • MDST3154: Star Wars — A course about media franchises, media franchising, and the long and storied history of George Lucas’s and now Disney’s Star Wars franchise. I’m particularly excited to be teaching the entirety of the Emmy award-winning series Andor on this go. This is the second time I’ve taught this course, and will hopefully be teaching it for many spring terms to come.
  • MDST3510: How To Watch Movies — A “topics in media research” course focused on film form and formal film analysis. I’m excited to teach a wider range of films in this course than I’ve ever taught — from Persona to Barbie to Do the Right Thing. A perhaps cheeky little title for what I hope will be a new, regular course I teach for many years.

If you come across this blog post and are interested in any of those courses, please give their dedicated pages a look. If you have any questions about anything I’m teaching, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
